Last night, I petitioned my local government for a redress of grievances, which is a right guaranteed by the First Amendment to the Constitution.
I asked Panama City Beach Mayor Mike Thomas to investigate (and censure, if warranted) new City Councilman Hector Solis for libeling three citizens on Facebook (see the posts here) in an effort to intimidate them by means of humiliation in order to silence dissent.
You can watch at the last 3 minutes of this video:
Americans should feel safe to criticize (and even lampoon) government officials without fear of reprisal. Mayor Thomas could have shown good faith to keep his oath to the Constitution by looking into the incident that I presented to him.
Instead, Mayor Thomas said flatly, “No, sir. But thank you very much.”
This has created a climate in Panama City Beach that could chill free speech. It is un-American, and I will spotlight it until they follow the Supreme Law of the Land.
